A coalition of 16 European academic and industry groups is calling for major changes to the EU’s Clinical Trials Directive,
saying it hinders medical research in the Community. The group, which
includes the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry, the
Academy of Medical Sciences and several cancer research organizations,
says the directive is interpreted differently by different Member
States, adding unnecessary complexity to the conduct of multinational
trials. In a joint statement to the European Commission and members of
the European Parliament, the coalition outlined specific revisions to
streamline the process and boost efficiencies.
