The Council of the European Union recently adopted conclusions
resulting from a high-level meeting on innovation in the medical device
sector held in March. The Council’s conclusions call upon Member States
and the European Commission to promote the development of innovative
devices to improve patient health and wellbeing throughout the EU. The
Council also presented a list of considerations for commissioners to
take into account in reviewing and recasting Europe’s Medical Devices Directives,
including the importance of the EU’s continued role as a leader in
international regulatory convergence and best regulatory practices.
