The Canadian government recently unveiled its new “patient-oriented
research strategy” intended to create a unified clinical research
infrastructure and to strengthen organizational, regulatory and
financial support for clinical studies conducted in Canada. “By putting
patients first, we are making sure that research will have a greater
impact on treatment and services provided in clinics, hospitals and
doctors’ offices throughout Canada,” said Canada’s Minister of Health
Leona Aglukkaq. “Better integration of research evidence and clinical
practices means improved health outcomes and a better health-care system
in Canada.” The strategy is summarized in paper from the President’s
Advisory Board under the leadership of the Canadian Institutes of Health
Research (CIHR).
