19-25 April is National Volunteer Week. RAPS is recognizing some its wonderful volunteers for all of their dedication and hard work. Get to know them each day this week with a Q&A below and check out the RAPS Volunteer Program to learn more and get involved.

    Andrea Chamblee, FRAPS, RAC

    • What has been your favorite RAPS volunteer experience? I enjoy a lot of the RAPS volunteer experience, including starting the very first RAPS local chapter. That experience has been very "macro," watching it grow worldwide and receiving the welcoming response to that effort, with the help of Wes Carr.
On the person-to-person level, I have especially enjoyed the chapter meetings themselves, and Career Day is my favorite. Nancy Singer and Danielle Drago turned it into a model program, attracting members up and down the East Coast. And the chance to conduct at least a "drive through" mentoring, and watch them incorporate the advice they received from all of us and move their career forward has been so rewarding (even if some of them now make a higher salary than I do!)
    • How has being a RAPS volunteer benefited you? Nothing beats the chance to stay current from the formal and informal gatherings, except the terrific personal relationships that have enriched my life during good times and bad.
    • What would we find on your desk right now? Laptop. Water. Coffee. Mobile phone. Dog toy (underneath).
    • Do you prefer coffee or tea? Coffee. Anything but Starbucks.
    • What has been your favorite quarantine hobby? The book tour for my husband's last book has been canceled. I finished it after his death. I have handled my disappointment by breaking for a mini-session of yoga at lunchtime and cardio or weights after 5 pm.
    • What do you love about the regulatory profession? To tell you the truth, in this 34th year since graduating I'm exhausted by the weight of continuing to try to persuade profiteers and people who never should be able to influence health products and policy to do the right thing to save lives. Their outsized influence has never been more naked and life-threatening than it has been in 2020.  If it weren't for my understanding and tireless colleagues, I would be headed in a different direction by now.
