    If you haven't taken the Global Compensation and Scope of Practice Survey, then you are not utilizing some of the best available information that provides a personalized profile to benchmark yourself.

    RAPS conducts this survey every two years, and has fielded similar studies since 1990. The previous survey resulted in 3,358 usable responses from professionals in 56 countries. The results have benefited so many, which is what you expect from your membership.  So, let's keep this going.

    We are highly educated regulatory professionals.  Also, we tend to come into this profession with significant prior professional experience; but, not always. For those without that prior experience, what can you expect when transitioning into a regulatory role?  Previous survey results tells us a lot about our scope of practice, namely:

    • our work is viewed as increasingly strategic;
    • our expertise is valued as an important business asset;
    • our work on business-related tasks and responsibilities, which had been increasing over the past decade, is now stabilized; and
    • most of us work on multiple product types and with regulations of multiple countries or regions.
    And those of you with significant prior experience know organizations are looking for some amazing professionals. This means you want to know how the every changing regulations impact our scope of practice.

    Personally, I was amazed to see the level of recruitment at the 2017 RAPS.   But, this level of recruitment confirmed what I've known for quite some time: organizations are looking for really amazing people and are willing to compensate appropriately.  All organizations pay us different salaries depending mostly upon our job.  However, the RAPS compensation survey is a tool used to establish the salary differentials between jobs. Let's ensure current data is available so that we all benefit.

    I've already said this survey is the best available information that provides a personalized profile to benchmark yourself, but it is worth repeating.  I encourage you to complete the survey, today!  It takes only a few minutes of your time, and the results can benefit you over the lifetime of your career.
