Indonesia expected to ramp up local content requirements for pharmaceuticals

Pharmaceuticals produced in Indonesia will be required to contain a higher percentage of domestic materials, under a government mandate under development. The directive from the Indonesian Ministry of Industry is designed to move Indonesia away from its heavy dependence on imported materials, support the development of more advanced domestic pharmaceutical and medical device industries,  improve scientific research in Indonesia and spur improvements in the quality of raw materials produced in Indonesia for use in the healthcare industry.

The requirements, expected to go into effect within months, will  differ for each stage of the development, manufacturing and production process. Overall, the government is expected to require that pharmaceutical products be made up of at least 30% from raw materials made in Indonesia.

    Dear Ames,

thank you for this info. Will this only be true for pharmaceuticals, or also for medical devices?
