  • 1.  Expected Service Life of Medical Electrical Equipment

    Posted 01-Dec-2021 10:35

The November 2021 issue of In Compliance has an interesting article entitled Expected Service Life of Medical Electrical Equipment by Steli Loznen.

The blurb says, "The definition of "expected service life" included in IEC 60601-1 standard potentially generates confusion and misinterpretation. This article provides an analysis of the "real-life" implications of this definition and proposes some clarifications".

    Good article, thank you.

In the case of SAMD  do any have recommendations?

As the SAMD has a potentially undeterminable lifetime of service dependent on hardware and operating system compatibility and availability.  The manufacturer must specify the Hardware and software compatibility requirements for safe use, but has little to no insight into the future state of that compatibility.
