To encourage competitive bidding for medical equipment, the Vietnamese government has launched an online portal that makes available to healthcare facilities the prices and specifications of tens of thousands of medical devices on the market.
Established in April by the Ministry of Health, the electronic reference system provides in one place and for the first-time key data on medical equipment to facilities and consumers. It is designed to make the bidding process for needed medical equipment more transparent, and ultimately to make prices more competitive. Along with prices, portal users will be able to search configuration and technical features of devices imported or manufactured in Vietnam, along with warranty information and installation requirements. The launching of the new service is designed to meet the need for reliable and easily accessible data amid blistering growth in the market for medical devices in the country.
