In late October, India's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has set up a committee to put together an extensive drug database. The committee will initially include 7 people. The goal of the drug database will be to provide an exhaustive record of drugs sold in India including dosage, strength, and details of the importers, manufacturers, and distributors. V. G. Somani, the drug controller of India said that this database will assist with monitoring drugs and help "empower consumers". This committee will review, edit, and add existing databases from different government entities, and drug departments of states and territories in India into one comprehensive searchable database.
