Indonesia Updates Halal Requirements For Medical Products

  • 1.  Indonesia Updates Halal Requirements For Medical Products

Recently, the President of Indonesia announced presidential regulation #6 requiring all drugs, biologics, and medical devices to meet Halal law. This law came into effect in mid-January. Medical products that do not have non-Halal components/materials and are made via a Halal manufacturing process can be Halal certified. Medical products must have labeling and packaging that meets Islamic Sharia laws. Manufacturing facilities must not have non-Halal materials. If a medical product does not meet Halal regulations, it may still be able to be sold in Indonesia, but it must be labeled non-Halal. Domestic and foreign medical manufacturers must closely follow the guidelines to reduce the chance of noncompliance and fines, or even the possibility of being banned in Indonesia.
