My company's considering developing a stereotaxic instrumentation system (procode OLO) to be used with a third party navigation system - does anyone have suggestions/ideas for tracking updates (software or not) to the navigation system? My understanding is not all updates will be readily available online so I'm wondering if there are other methods to track continued compatibility between the instruments and the navigation system.

    Hello Anon,

This can be quite involved with software/hardware configuration management which you might want to seek some expert advice.  Depending on the relationship with the third-party providing the navigation system this might be a partnership with the company or a company agreement together providing information about changes.  If the information is not readily online, depending on how your device is being used, might want a more close relationship with the navigation system supplier.  Another way keeping track of compatibility between the systems is probably not a road you would want to venture down.  Providing the instrumentation system would need to proactively keep track of the navigation system and conduct routine validations to ensure the compatibility is being maintained - this can be a lot of work and record keeping.

If you can't build a relationship with the manufacturer, you might just have to publish a list of the versions your device is confirmed compatible with. That's obviously not as convenient for the users, and may lead to errors.
