Communication is the process of creating shared understanding. This process comprises exchanging ideas or thoughts with others, hearing, understanding and comprehending them and then articulating them to confirm that everyone heard and understood the same information. There are three basic types of communication: written, spoken and nonverbal. Communication is more than just the words you say or the documents you write. Actions speak louder than words. Chapter Objectives • Define the communication process. • Identify the major communication methods. • Identify how to make communication effective.
