    Hi-
I am taking the US RAC exam this Friday. I have studied since January on and off, used an old PP presentation as flash cards, and I purchased the tool kit that included the practice exam.  The practice exam is great, but the toolkit is a computer voice reading the words on the screen so I stopped using the toolkit. I feel like there is so much more that I need to retain but there is only so much I can take in.  I have taken the practice exam 5 times and I failed the first few and then finally passed.  For the last few days I am going to focus on the exam and the questions that I get wrong to help round out my studying.

I am too wondering if the exam is like the practice exam, but only time will tell.

    Happy studying!

    Hi
Practice exam will give you an  ideaa about the exam pattern... If you are lucky you might get couple of questions from the practise test. Last time when I gave  the exam it helped me to some extent..

    Hi

Yes questions keep repeating in practice.. it will help you to some extent but I will recommend to go through the actual book fundamentals of regulartory science.
Questions were not straight forward and it was tough ....

The questions are periodically updated. Last summer (2018), all questions were reviewed for the format switch (drugs or device exams), but not sure how many were added, deleted or clarified.

Will do!  I have taken the practice exam about 6 times, I took it once when I started studying and then again in the middle, and multiple times at the end. The questions did repeat but since there is so much content, sometimes you over think the question or read it wrong so I wanted to retake the practice exam.

    Good luck with your exam!

I studied for 6 months for the RAC Global exam. I took the practice exam cold and failed miserably (of course I work in medical devices with no pharmaceutical so that hurt). I randomly took the practice exam over and over, which got better and better. I found the exam to be comparable to the practice exam, while not exactly the same.

    Good Luck!

    Hi-
Just like everyone said, the practice exam only preps you for the type of question that will be asked, there were no repeat questions on the exam. The exam was tough and I am glad I had a lot of real world experience.  Good luck!

I found the practice exams very helpful, not as much for the actual content, but for the format of the questions and answers.  I was much more comfortable taking the exam because I was familiar with the format.

Last year our Founding Partner Jim DiBiasi and Scientific Lead Bert Regeer, MD, were invited to be guest lecturers at the North Carolina Regulatory Affairs Forum (NCRAF) RAC preparation course, to provide insights into proper preparation for FDA approval meetings. They taught from chapters 4 and 5 of the Fundamentals of US Regulatory Affairs (10th edition) textbook, both authored by 3D Communications.  We authored these two chapters for the 11th edition that will be available later this year.  If you are preparing to take the RAC US exam, you can watch these two videos on YoutTube to help you prepare and pass the test!

On a related note, can anyone tell me what the passing score is for the RAC exam? The practice exam states that 100% is the passing score, but i really (really) hope that we are not required to answer 100 out of 100 questions correctly to pass the actual exam.

    Hi there

The RAC Candidate Guide explains the scoring as follows:

    Examination Scoring
RAC examinations are scored by Castle Worldwide after the close of the testing cycle. Examinations are not scored at testing centers. A statistical report of scoring is reviewed by a statistician and the examination committee to assure ongoing quality of the examinations. All scores are reported on a scale of 0 to 99 with 75 being the passing score. The scaled score is neither the number of questions answered correctly nor the percent of questions answered incorrectly. You cannot look at the scaled score and determine the number of correctly answered questions needed to pass the examination.

The reason for this is to make sure exams are 'equated'. This is a statistical process of determining comparable scores on different forms of an exam (i.e. the person taking the exam in autumn 2017 is graded at an equivalent level of difficulty to someone who takes the exam in spring 2019 even though the exam questions are different).

I would strongly recommend* anyone who is interested in the RAC candidates become familiar with the RAC Candidate Guide (see https://www.raps.org/rac-credential for a copy) as it includes significant information about the exam and what to expect.

*In fact at the time of applying for the RAC, all candidates are required to attest that they have read and understood the Candidate Guide.

The practice exam was critical in my preparation.  The format is exactly consistent with the exam, and was a departure from the other materials.  The hypothetical format shocked me when I took the first practice exam.  I purchased the prep bundle and used those quizzes and exams to structure my learning.  I had the same experience as Mr. Daniel and felt like taking the practice exam too many times would fake me out.

One thing that will help in preparation is the candidate guide.  I recommend writing "fill-in-the-blank" answers to each bullet item of the exam content.

When I retook the RAC exam (after letting it lapse for a couple years due to some personal issues) I go the practice exam. I failed the first few times I took it (and spaced attempts so I would not recall the answers). It was gruesomely difficult and very, very different from the exam I originally took in 1994. Then when I got to the actual exam it seemed much easier. I am not sure if this was due to preparation (I would like to think so) or not.  As I am in biologics, the device portion was my albatross. I passed the exam, and will never let my RAC lapse again.
