    Hi,

We've received a strange request from Thailand recently to get notarisation of accessory list however they need the notarisation  from the Government and not just the usual notary . In Australia we don't have any notarisations done by the Government . Has anybody had a similar experience ?

    Thanks & Regards,

    Hi Rashmi,

In my experience with Thailand, in addition to notarization of a document, the Thai FDA requires a document to be authenticated and legalized by the Royal Thai Embassy located in a respective country. From what I have seen, this seems to be a common practice.

Therefore, I believe when you were told "notarization by the government", they probably meant authentication and legalization by the Embassy.  Please note that the process of notarization and legalization differs in every country, so I cannot specifically speak to how it works in Australia.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Rashmi,

Thailand usually require a notary stamp, authentication by your national government stamp and an apostille stamp from the Thai embassy. For the Thai embassies to apostille the document they usually require prior authentication via a national Government authentication/consular office. For example, in Ireland documents need to be sent to the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade before they can be apostilled by the Thai embassy. I suggest looking at the website of your local Thai embassy or government offices under authentication/consular services. This should provide the instructions and requirements for documents originating in Australia. Please note Thailand have very strict requirements if you are providing copies of original documents. Please ensure your notary states it is a certified true copy of the original if using copies.

Hope this helps, any more questions please feel free to ask.

    Hi Rashmi,

I have done this multiple times in the past (in fact, for a period of 6-7 weeks, I was exclusively doing this):

Step 1: Have the copy notarized by a notary (can be anyone-bank, notary in-house) and state that the copy being notarized is a true copy.
Step 2: Reach out to an apostille service provider (I have used Top Consular, Apostille, and Document Legalization Services in the past). Let them know that you need this document to be "legalized for Thailand". They will provide you with their address and you will send the docs to them via postal mail (Fed ex).
Step 3: The apostille service agency will return your document with Thailand legalization. This typically takes 2-3 weeks.

Usually, charges for such a service is approximately $50-75.

    Hope this helps.

I would highly recommend calling up the Thai Embassy and confirming the website requirements as well. We recently sent in a document for legalization and it was returned to us as the price had increased despite the website saying otherwise. It's impossible to argue with them so to save yourself a headache, call and confirm!

    Hi,

Thailand accepts Thai embassy legalization. Please contact Thailand embassy in your country to do legalization.
    Thank you.

I defer to the many expert comments made, but I think you need a bit more info, as an "apostille" or "legalization" usually applies to a government-issued document, where, for example, a Thai Embassy will legalize a document issued by the Australian Dept of Foreign Affairs and Trade.   Sometimes an apostille was needed when someone wanted proof that your product really was authorized by the local ministry of health (e.g., TGA) or that your company was legally authorized to sell certain medical equipment.

As others have noted, you'll need to talk to your local Thai embassy, but they will also want to know whether it's an Australian government document or a private company document:  Legalization - ROYAL THAI EMBASSY, CANBERRA

    Hi All,

Just one additional point, the Australian Government does provide Authentication services for government documentation.
This is managed under the auspices of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)  through their passport offices.
The current fee is $AUD81.00 for authentication.

    Legalising documents

    Kind regards,
