Career Pathways & Specializations in Regulatory Affairs
RAPS Education Webinar Series – Career Development

This RAPS education webinar is designed to support students and early-career professionals seeking to better understand career opportunities within regulatory affairs and adjacent fields. As the regulatory profession continues to expand across therapeutic areas, technologies, and organization types, early career navigation can be challenging without clear guidance and exposure to real-world perspectives.

The session will begin by outlining common regulatory career pathways, from entry-level positions through senior and leadership roles, and discussing how responsibilities, influence, and decision-making evolve over time. Participants will gain insight into how
regulatory professionals build foundational skills, develop subject-matter expertise, and
progress within the profession.

Speakers will discuss the focus and the scope of their areas of interest and how professionals may move between or specialize within these functions throughout their careers.

Participants will also learn how regulatory roles differ across organizational settings such as academia, government agencies, pharmaceutical companies, and CROs. The discussion will address differences in regulatory responsibilities, organizational culture,
and professional development opportunities, with particular attention to considerations for early-career professionals.

Attendees will gain an understanding of how regulatory competencies apply across related disciplines and how professionals can broaden or pivot their careers over time.

An interactive panel will feature regulatory professionals sharing their personal career journeys, insights, and reflections on what they wish they had known earlier in their careers. A live Ask Me Anything segment will provide attendees with the opportunity to engage directly with panelists. The session will conclude with a wrap-up of career development resources, including an overview of RAPS programs, learning opportunities, and professional communities designed to support regulatory professionals throughout their careers.
